Dr. Steve Albrecht's Library 2.0 Podcast: "The Salman Rushdie Attack: Creating a Library Major Event Security Plan"

We've just posted a new Dr. Albrecht podcast in our "Library Service, Safety, & Security" section of Library 2.0: "The Salman Rushdie Attack: Creating a Library Major Event Security Plan."

"So my topic for this half hour is the recent stabbing incident involving Salman Rushdie, a tragedy at a lot of levels, which I'll talk about... We'll talk about the incident what it means to library people in terms of safety and security. 

"So by now, you have probably seen the stabbing incident that happened with Salman Rushdie happened at Chautauqua Institute in upstate New York.... I want to see if we could talk about, in this discussion here, library security for these types of events where we bring in somebody who has not only high profile but has some controversy attached to him like Mr. Rushdie does... 

"His attacker came out of the crowd and attacked him with a knife. And we look at this situation, we say, well, there was a cop, a local cop from that area, plus a New York State Trooper, but not close enough to stop an actual attacker. So it is a failure in security... The other issue is that there was not a screening process, as far as I know, at the door for weapons... I'm not being ridiculous about it. If you're having somebody who is an international figure who has had a death warrant on his head for 30 years, then I would say at a minimum that a metal detector is necessary at that that facility..."

DR. STEVE ALBRECHT

Steve holds a doctoral degree in Business Administration (D.B.A.), an M.A. in Security Management, a B.A. in English, and a B.S. in Psychology. He is board-certified in HR, security management, employee coaching, and threat assessment.
