Your Support Is Needed! Purchase the Summit All-Access "Library" Pass Today and Receive All the Bonuses #homelearningsummit #learningrevolution

Today is the final day of The Emergency Home Learning (& More) Summit. We've had 320 sessions and 25 special interviews over the course of two months.

This is an important moment for education, and the Summit has been (and will continue to be) an incredible opportunity to think together about how to move forward in a time when students, parents, teachers, administrators, librarians, and others have found their normal school lives disrupted.

Putting on an event of this magnitude is not easy. It's been great fun, but it's taken 12-hour days since late August to do so. Please support my ability to hold these kinds of events by considering the purchase of the all-access Summit "library" pass. If you buy the pass by the end of the day today, you'll save $50, since the price goes up tomorrow. Being able to hold important education events without corporate sponsor influence feels critical right now, and I can't do so unless you help support the work.

Buy the Summit all-access library pass HERE and you can watch the all the recordings any time you like. The list of additional benefits and bonuses is below my signature. See all of the 190 speakers here. See all of the 320 sessions here. See all of the sessions in detailed categories and topics here.

And see you "online!"

A journalist by trade, Lenore spent 14 years at The New York Daily News as a reporter-turned-opinion columnist, and two more at The New York Sun. In 2008, after her column "Why I Let My 9 Year Old Ride the Subway Alone" landed her on every talk show from The Today Show to Dr. Phil, Lenore founded the book and blog “Free-Range Kids.” These launched the anti-helicopter parenting movement and garnered her the nickname, “America’s Worst Mom.” She got a promotion of sorts when Discovery Life tapped her to host the reality TV show, World’s Worst Mom. Barbara Bray
Coach, teacher, writer, disruptor, risk-taker, learning designer, connector, and visionary

Barbara is a coach, teacher, writer, disruptor, risk-taker, learning designer, connector, and visionary. She calls herself a creative learning strategist where others call her a “change-maker.” Whenever anyone told Barbara she couldn’t do something, she took it as a challenge. Her dream long ago was to create an online place for educators that was safe and secure with all the tools and resources in one place. She did it with My eCoach as early as 1999 — way before there was Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or Pinterest. Barbara is what some call a “Digital Pioneer.” With her coaching background and an amazing team, they created coaching and mentoring strategies and processes that have been adopted in schools and districts in the U.S. and other countries. Barbara coined the phrase “Making Learning Personal” in 2000 and trademarked it in 2002. She brought in different learning approaches such as Universal Design for Learning that addressed the needs of all learners. In 2004, she started her Rethinking Learning blog in My eCoach. In 2010, she moved her blog to this website, barbarabray.net, to expand on the writing she was doing. Barbara founded Personalize Learning, LLC in 2012 with Kathleen McClaskey who she co-authored two books on personalized learning: Make Learning Personal and How to Personalize Learning. After several years later, they decided to do what they do best and consult independently. For Barbara, this meant expanding on the coaching she had been doing for years. Barbara continues to find and research new tools and methods that help educators create learner-centered environments and how any person no matter what age can find their purpose and develop agency. In 2017, she visited schools in New Zealand and learned how much our stories matter. When she returned, Barbara started her Rethinking Learning podcast to capture stories from people who inspire her. Now with over 100 podcasts, she recently added reflections around controversial topics. There were discussions about mental health and the importance of developing wellbeing, a sense of belonging, and empathy. The pandemic exposed inequities and social injustices that needed to be discussed. After listening to the stories about how the struggles people experience helped them discover their WHY, Barbara started writing. She invited people that were on her podcast or who had reached out to her to share their stories for her book, Define Your WHY published in February 2020. One month later, the pandemic stopped the world and all of the planned events including book signings were canceled. Everything changed for everyone. This is a worldwide pandemic and what happened to her was not personal. Barbara started coaching again, listening to the concerns of educators, families, friends, and business owners. She continues to blog, host her podcast, invite educators to join My eCoach, do social media to connect people, and whatever she can to support educators and learners during this time. Barbara has been doing keynotes, strategic planning, presentations, webinars, workshops interviews all over the world on Re-Defining Your Why during this crisis. Reach out to Barbara so you can discover your WHY and live and learn on purpose even in these uncertain times.

"Tools for Tense Situations: Reducing Conflicts With Patrons As Libraries Return to the New Normal"

Part of a special Library 2.0 series with Dr. Steve Albrecht

OVERVIEW

We invite you to join us for a 90-minute webinar presented by Library 2.0 and Dr. Steve Albrecht.

As libraries re-open their doors to provide service to patrons, we're all facing uncertainty, apprehension, and stress. This 90-minute webinar session will provide library directors, managers, supervisors, and full and part-time employees with tools to recognize and resolve conflicts between arriving patrons. Getting along in our new post-Pandemic, post-protests world will require patience, empathy, and understanding other points of view without judgment. Library employees and the people we serve will have strong feelings about the current political and economic climate. It's easy to let emotions get in the way of providing good service. Here are the topics this webinar will cover:

  • What are the challenges we face as we return from a Work From Home status to back to working in and around our library buildings?
  • What safety and security challenges do we face in the wake of more national and local protests in our parks, public spaces, and government buildings?
  • How can managers and supervisors monitor the work culture for conflict, communication, and morale issues?
  • Can supervisors use a step-by-step conflict resolution tool to use to help two disagreeing employees to get along?;
  • How to respectfully request that patrons and other library visitors (vendors, delivery, maintenance, janitorial providers) follow Covid-19 safety protocols;
  • How do we agree to disagree and have patience and empathy for our patrons or co-workers who have strong feelings about national issues that differ from ours?;
  • What safety and security protocols do we need to follow, coming and going and while working in publicly-accessed buildings?;
  • How about a little personal and professional stress management?;
  • What does the future hold for library employees and what new ways can we provide service to patrons?

DATE: Friday, November 13, 2020, at 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. Recorded for viewing at any time.

BLOG POST: "Creating the Perfect Security Officer"
From Dr. Steve Albrecht's Library Safety & Security Blog

"There are usually two types of library security officers: in-house or contract. In-house security officers are more rare, but they could be provided by your city, county, or perhaps through the Sheriff’s Department. The benefit to this type is that they have knowledge of crime issues in the area and tend to be more responsive (and loyal) because they are also employees just like you. The downside to contract employees is that you may get stuck with an officer who has retired on duty or is a bit lazy and doesn’t do much. You can put some pressure on this person’s boss (the security contractor) to get them to work harder....

"Like creating the perfect service-oriented library employee, getting the best use of security officers in your library will take some careful thought, planning, preparation, and discussion, with both library leaders and staff members. It makes good security sense to talk as a group about the benefits of a security officer and how to make the best use of his or her abilities in your library. Then you can meet with the in-house or contract security providers and explain your needs in detail."
