This is the audio/slide recording of my talk "Web 2.0 Is the Future of Education," given as the keynote address for the Knowledge Bank online conference, "Learning in a changing world - Web 2.0 and beyond." The original Elluminate recording is at that site, as well as those of the other conference sessions.
My original blog posts on this topic are here and here. I felt I did a better this particular version of tying some of the threads together.
So--are you going to submit a proposal for K12Online? This would be a fabulous preso.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the talk when you gave it, and again later. Very well done. I highly recommend "The Printing Revolution in Early Modern Europe" by Elizabeth Eisenstein. The idea that the printing press fomented revolution and reformation has real relevance to your parallel between the printing press and web 2.0 tools.
ReplyDeleteHi, Cathy! I missed the deadline for K12Online because I didn't realize it was GMT... :( Thanks for the thought, though!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. I'll add it to my guilt, I mean reading, pile! :)
ReplyDeleteKaren: Do you recommend "Printing Revolution" or "The Printing Press as an Agent of Change (Volumes 1 and 2 in One)?" It seems from the descriptions on Amazon that the former is an abridged version of the latter... Either one seems imposing.
ReplyDeleteI agree totally with your comments about the need to add content to help manage the content overload. I'm trying this with 10th grade US history students this year on a wiki shared by all 3 teachers. Students will post work and pose questions about it, hopefully to an international audience. Very nervous about our lack of knowledge with wikis, but very excited, too. I wasn't able to verbalize why this seemed so important until I listened to you. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLPK: Be sure to look at my next post--http://www.stevehargadon.com/2008/07/solution-to-content-overload-thought.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.
