“Rescuing Self: A Foundation for Personal and Professional Growth." An 8-week online workshop.

It can be really hard to know how to make things better when you are feeling discouraged, hopeless, or even broken.

You really want to feel calm, confident, and in control, but those good feelings seem so far away.

You need a rescue.

You need a step-by-step plan to get out of the emotional traps that sneak up on us, that take over our lives, and then convince us that we aren’t really that important and that things aren’t likely to ever get much better.

You need a plan you can use for the rest of your life, whenever you experience discouragement, to re-engage your core capability and confidence.

“The trouble with the rat race,” comedian Lily Tomlin said, “is that even if you win, you’re still a rat.”

Life isn’t a rat race, and you’re not a rat.

You can and SHOULD feel good about who you are and what you can accomplish. You may argue that you’ve made mistakes and that you are the cause of your own problems.

There’s truth to that. But it’s not the whole truth.

You are on your own hero’s journey, and if you’re seeing your setbacks as permanent, that’s a clue that you’ve lost sight of your own potential.

And once you figure out your personal pathway to rescuing your own self, you’ll discover that you become an incredible influence for helping others to do the same.

Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a librarian, or even a student, your personal sense of self will change how you feel about everything--including your ability to help others.

Join us for eight weeks as we provide you with a self-paced process for rescuing your sense of self.

Each week we’ll send you a thirty-minute audio recording that you can listen to on your own time. Each recording covers an important part of a life-long pattern for personal and professional growth, with ideas and techniques that you can immediately implement to regain your purpose, mission, and confidence.

Throughout the course, we’ll also introduce you to some amazing mental “tools” that you can put into place right away to immediately start to improve your life and the lives of those around you.

You’ll also have access to our online discussion forum for the course, where you can share your questions and success stories with others.

Sign up now and you’ll get a free, 30-minute one-on-one coaching call (phone or video) with Paul. You can use it at any time during the course.

You absolutely deserve to be in control of who you are and how you feel about yourself.

I hope you’ll join us.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Week 1: Story of Self
We all have stories that we tell ourselves, and others, which determine how we see ourselves. Our particular story of self can change over time, but we’re usually not aware of how much that story can hinder or hamper us, or how much a different--but equally true--story of ourself can significantly change how we act and feel. We call the process of finding a better story for ourself "restory-ing," and we’ll show you how your personal story can and should be in your control.
Week 2: Tools for Mental and Emotional Change
Over the past century, there have been dramatic discoveries about how our brains work and the ways that thoughts and ideas impact outcomes and even our reality. Drawing from therapeutic practice, we’ll walk through powerful techniques and tools for personal change that you can use right away to make a difference for yourself and others.
Week 3: Self Awareness
Why is it so hard to be focused on the current moment, to calmly bring our best self to the activities and challenges before us? The trap of feeling so busy with both important and unimportant things often means that we never feel capable of being present and experiencing what’s actually going on. When we uncover larger narratives (other people’s stories) that we live in but that don’t serve us well, we get closer to being self-aware, capable of being present, and able to enjoy the experiences of our lives.
Week 4: World 2.0
“Anxious” and “lonely” are the two most common descriptions people give for how they feel right now. The world created by social media has the potential to make us feel vulnerable by the constant comparison with the “best moments” posted by others. We’ll talk about specific strategies for keeping this new part of modern life in balance.
Week 5: Temperament and “Different Gifts”
Just as we’re born with bodies that are of different types, we are born emotionally and intellectually different from each other. Figuring out--and actually loving--how we are built is at the heart of the great work we each have to do in our lives. Once you know yourself better, more doors open for how you can live a meaningful, fulfilling life.
Week 6: Emotional Reactivity and “Response-ability”
Emotions are vital to a meaningful life. However, we can easily get hijacked and de-railed when we are out of touch with emotional balance. We’ll look at ways to slow down, change, and re-story our emotional reactivity to challenging everyday situations, freeing up more of our whole self to be present to what’s going on.
Week 7: Wellness
Our health, the food we eat, even the amount and quality of sleep we get are all part of how we feel about ourselves. The physical has a great impact on the mental and emotional. In this session, we go review known and practical ways of taking care of our physical selves.
Week 8: Taking Your True Self to Others
Humans don’t function in isolation, and most of us seek to find fulfillment in romantic, familial, and professional circles. We’ll focus on how you can bring your best self to those around you so that both you and they leave each experience better, wiser, and more meaningfully connected. The ability to share the personal growth strategies of this course with others becomes a part of your lasting impact.
