Things have a way of working themselves out, though it's seldom in the way we think they will. In my contribution to Heidi's most recent book, Curriculum 21: Essential Education for a Changing World, I stated my strongest conviction that social networking is perhaps the most powerful yet least understood, transforming force in 21st century education. I have been greatly influenced by your work and have thoroughly benefited from our professional relationship. I look forward to following your career trajectory and taking full advantage of the creativity and energy you bring to this critically important space.Steve Wilmarthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00749395083618672734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676377.post-42156569186202540052010-07-11T10:11:20.826-04:002010-07-11T10:11:20.826-04:00Steve,

While Blackboard may not have Open-Source as part of its primary framework, remember that even IBM has adopted Open-Source.

You are a man who sees the future and it is good. I dont think many of us are not living that in some form. You, in particular, have been a great model for continuous learning and questioning. You have helped open many eyes (certainly my own) to the potentials in education and technology. I have my own selfish fear that the conversations that you bring to Elluminate will suffer. At the same time I am hopeful for the ability for good ideas and people to survive. Here's to many more conversations!David McGavockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10782841966698617069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676377.post-86383596291674511272010-07-10T23:32:44.511-04:002010-07-10T23:32:44.511-04:00Steve, I enjoyed reading your reflection and the h...Steve, I enjoyed reading your reflection and the heartfelt and honest sentiments you share with us. I believe this era of regular and often disruptive change is part of the transition to new energized models, tools and pedagogy in education. We have excellent supporters such as Elluminate and Blackboard who have found meaning in joining forces, and in many respects this makes sense. How the rest of us adjust depends on further sharing of decisions from the merged companies and perception of impact on what we are individually trying to do in education.
I share your sentiments and know that something even more powerful and transformative will come from this merger, remembering that in true 'who stole my cheese' fashion that you typically are not the mouse who sits waiting for the cheese to come to him. Thanks for all that you do Steve, and keep us posted.Julie Lindsayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05043807289251144925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18676377.post-72814505760372191652010-07-10T23:00:27.876-04:002010-07-10T23:00:27.876-04:00I have been very impressed that Ellumiante support...I have been very impressed that Ellumiante supports open education, and that is one of the reasons why I have supported it over the years.
