- Announcing OZeLive - Ed Tech Down Under on February 22nd and 23rd. On a very fast schedule, we're announcing OZeLive -- the free, Australia time-zone friendly educational technology virtual conference. The team from Australia e-Series in collaboration with The Learning Revolution, are very excited about the first conference in 2014. Call for proposals now open! - Save the Dates: March 6 + 7 - Exploring the Learning Process. Our second conference under the Homeschool banner will be a broad learning event, inviting and including participation from the school, library, museum, and homeschool communities. We're looking to bridge these worlds into a larger conversation on when, how, and where learning takes place and can be facilitated.
- Student Liberation Handbook: Volume I. The Student Liberation Handbook Volume I is almost here! Chapter contributions in this volume come from Blake Boles, David Loertscher, Marc Crompton, Ann Michaelsen, Lisa Nielsen, Mattias Davidsson, and Jackie Gerstein. Education Revolution Google+ Community
- YouTube channel for Calculus lessons. Calculus Videos thought we might be interested in sharing their web resources with our community--we are! More and more, educators are complementing their classroom teaching with supplemental, at-home material. This might be a great tool for the math teachers in our community. Enjoy!
- Bringing Macbeth to your classroom via Google Hangouts. Annabelle Howard is looking for other teachers to participate in a four week lesson reading Macbeth. The online adaptation is available in multiple language formats, and the project will involve using Hangouts to meet with other participating classrooms for discussion. How fun! Future of Education
- Eliminating Homework, Teaching Soft Skills. Future of Education member, Mariam Haleem, shared a thoughtful post exploring the teaching of soft skills and making a case for eliminating homework. The main purpose of schools nowadays is to impart soft skills, life skills or even inter-personal skills. Considering that, isn’t it time for schools to reconsider the idea of “homework”? We had a two terrific nights of global education meetings in New York this week, and would love to find a model for doing these more broadly. It was great to meet face-to-face with supporters of the Global Education Conference and to tell new people about it. One of the best of many outstanding outcomes from the visit was our meeting with four 11th grade girls from Marymount School who want to run an online student technology conference next year. Of course, we said we'd give them our full support! In fact, we cannot wait! The technologies of the Web have opened so many doors to authentic contributions and experiences--by both students and educators--and we're so delighted to be a part of this.
